From offer letter to UK Student visa

9 October 2026 By Aapka Holidays

The UK offers one year master degrees and globally recognised universities, which makes it a strong choice for students from Gujarat. The Student visa, which replaced the older Tier 4 visa, is a points based visa with clear requirements.

Step 1: Get an unconditional offer and your CAS

Once you accept an unconditional offer from a licensed sponsor, the university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). The CAS reference number is the foundation of your visa application.

Step 2: Meet the financial requirement

You must show money for your course fees and living costs, held for the required period in your or your parents' account. The amount depends on whether you study in London or elsewhere and is set by the UK government.

Step 3: English language evidence

Most students show English ability through an approved test such as IELTS for UKVI or another Secure English Language Test, or through the university's own assessment where allowed.

  • Valid passport
  • CAS reference number
  • Proof of funds for fees and living costs
  • English language evidence
  • Tuberculosis test certificate from an approved clinic
  • Academic documents listed on your CAS
  • Payment of the Immigration Health Surcharge

Step 4: Apply online and attend biometrics

Apply online, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, then attend your biometrics appointment at the visa application centre. Many applicants from Gujarat use the Ahmedabad centre.

Working during studies

Degree level students can usually work up to 20 hours a week in term time and full time in vacations. After graduation, the Graduate Route may allow eligible students to stay and work for a period set by the UK government.

Dependants

Rules on bringing family have been tightened, and currently mainly postgraduate research students can bring dependants. Check the latest rules for your course.

Keep your funds in the account for the full required period. Moving money too late is one of the simplest ways to lose a UK visa.

Choosing the right university and course

Look at the course content, university ranking, location, fees and employability support. One year master degrees save time and living costs, while some courses include a placement year for work experience. Make sure the university is a licensed student sponsor before you accept an offer.

Accommodation and living costs

Many universities offer halls of residence for first year students, while others rent shared houses. London is much more expensive than most other UK cities, so plan your budget carefully. Your funds statement must cover both tuition and the required living cost amount.

Timeline to follow

  • Shortlist universities about a year before intake
  • Prepare for and take your English test early
  • Apply and receive offers, then meet conditions
  • Pay the deposit and receive your CAS
  • Arrange funds, TB test and apply for the visa about three months before the course starts

Keep copies of every document you upload, because you may be asked to show them at the airport or to your university during enrolment.
